I cannot quit being obnoxious lately, guys
And uh, I've gotten lazy about writing
So to kick start my ass up
I ganked Snowdevil's meme

Yatta~~~

Pick two fandoms from the list I'm going to give you below, and I will write a short (or longish, depending on how inspired I am) scene of either a crossover between them or a fusion version. If you have a preference, either for characters involved or for whether it's a crossover or a fusion, feel free to tell me.

Special note: If an item is marked with an asterisk (*), please do not mix it with another asterisked item. These are series I haven't seen in a while or am not completely familiar or comfortable. I can't really mix two series in which I am on shaky grounds.

Fandoms you can choose from:
Hikaru no Go
Code Geass
Tiger & Bunny
Harry Potter
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Naruto
*Yu Yu Hakusho
*Samurai Champloo
FLCL
Trigun
*Cowboy Bebop
.hack//SIGN
*Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pokemon
*Spirited Away (movie)
Star Trek: The Next Generation
*Loveless
Gravitation
Ouran Highschool Host Club
Rurouni Kenshin
Digimon
Maria-sama ga Miteru (shoujo-ai schoolgirls... just putting that out there.)
Maria Holic (unrelated to above. A lesbian in an all-girls' school finds one of the girls is actually a boy. Just... Really, I'm just... Putting the premise out there. Innocently.)

1. I am really impressed, Snowdevil, that your list was alphabetical. Like, really. This is magic.
2. I have just realized that I have overrun my girly fandom quota. For shame.

Well... I FORGOT A BUNCH that I was only just reminded of upon seeing them listed here D:

Oh, man. Oohhhh man. Hm. Avatar the Last Airbender and Yu Yu Hakusho?

Bummer, homes! I know this is sorta cheating, but could I ask you to change one of those? I saw Avatar ONCE all the way through about two years ago. I remember a lot more about the world than the characters and events. Ditto with YYH, I haven't read in about three years. If someone picked either of those, I was hoping the other choice was a series where I was more familiar with the characters/events.

Sorry, can you make another selection for at least one of these?

Uhhhhh so I got really lazy and skipped a pretty important scene-- I am so sorry. Let the length make up for it.

Lelouch wakes from another dream of fields of sunflowers and the back of that man and his mother slaughtered and he thinks, I am going to kill them before we ever reach the capital. Suzaku and Kallen may be his friends, but their usefulness is nothing that can't be replaced by a red-eyed glare and a few well-chosen words. They just don't realize what thin ice they're really on when they carry on into the night like this.

There's really nothing quite as horrible as waking up annoyed, not for Lelouch at least. His rage is that which cannot be reasoned with as he drags himself from the pathetic pile of threadbare blankets upon which he had slept (if indeed that uncomfortable, short-lived, restless few hours could really be called sleep). He crosses the dirt-floored hut with heavy feet, shuffling so loudly that the two outside, previously shouting, hush as suddenly as deer spotting predators.

The door gives way with a little push and a little splinter which, at this point, is really only god throwing fuel on his fire. Sure enough, as he peers blearily into the surrounding night, there is Kallen and there is Suzaku, facing off across a small crackling fire, fully dressed and hands tensed over weapons. Their bodies are turned to each other, but their heads twist to stare warily at Lelouch.

The three of them spend a clipped eternity in silence, tense and drowning in their own separate secrets and demons. Lelouch cracks open the one eye that pains him most and lets a shiver of fear pass through them. Gradually Suzaku twists his body to face Lelouch, and they all glare: Kallen at Suzaku and Suzaku at Lelouch and Lelouch back at Suzaku.

"What is it?" Lelouch spits at them, voice rough.

"It's between us--" Kallen barks, her most classic line but delivered too quickly--

"We were arguing," Suzaku says.

"Clearly," Lelouch sneers. "When are you two not?"

"About you," Suzaku finishes before Kallen can retaliate and divert the conversation.

Lelouch thins his lips into a flat, unimpressed line and Kallen gnashes her teeth together. Even in the dark Lelouch can see that Suzaku is shaking and his eyes glisten and shine with a hundred tiny lights-- fire dancing in tears.

Lelouch says-- and he says gently, because he knows exactly the rage in his friend now-- "Not me. Euphemia."

"Euphemia," Suzaku confirms.

Not even Kallen can look so savage when Suzaku sounds like that. Lelouch waits and Suzaku snarls and lashes out. Lelouch figured this day was coming. He lets it happen.

Two mornings later C.C. catches up to Lelouch. She knows it must be him because she notices all of the patrons of the restaurant file out in straight lines, dazed and unknowing where they are going. Sure enough, when she ducks the hangings and squints her eyes against the contrast of dazzling windows and dim walls, she spots Lelouch--

Several individual tables have been pushed together, and all are laden with fine, steaming foods. No servers, no customers, and no cooks are to be seen-- there is only Lelouch, at the head of this long table, leaning back against the wall and gazing listlessly at his little charm.

C.C. joins him quietly, holding her sunflower kimono delicately. Lelouch seems unsurprised to see her.

"You still hold that impossible ambition in your heart?" she asks lightly, nodding to the charm that dangles so innocently from the sheath of his knife.

"I will find them," Lelouch responds lowly.

"Where are your bodyguards?"

"I'm in need of new ones."

C.C. smiles slowly, cruelly. Lelouch looks away.

"I told them the truth," Lelouch admits.

"Finally."

"And they both decided they wanted nothing to do with it."

"I see." She pauses, then asks, "Do you think you can kill the emperor and rescue your sister on your own?"

"Of course not," Lelouch spits, looking up at last. "That's why I say I need--"

"Yo!" a rough voice calls from the front of the restaurant. They both turn to face the intruder, Lelouch's red eye flaring. The man looks Lelouch straight in the eye and grins-- does he feel no fear? C.C. wonders idly.

His hair is wild, his face dirty, and from him emanates an odor foul enough to turn a scavenger bird's stomach, but--

But most striking are his eyes, which glint with a wild violence.

This man prowls right up to the table, lifts a lean, bare leg and slams it onto the tabletop. Then he leans close, and he grabs a whole, untouched chicken from Lelouch's plate, and tears into it with a remarkable savage vulgarity.

"So," the swordsman says around a mouthful of chewed chicken. "Are you the badass causing trouble?" He leans closer. "That eye isn't so scary to me."

Lelouch evaluates this man and then smiles his pretty, manipulative smile. "I am. And what is your name?"

"Mugen," the man surrenders easily, hand reaching up for his blade.

"Mugen-- did someone pay you to get rid of me?"

The man, Mugen, grins, baring his ugly teeth.

"How about I offer you something better?" Lelouch says mildly. C.C. hides her own smile.

Lelouch is nothing if not relentless. Somewhere, surely, the emperor can feel the murderous presence hunting him down. Surely.

And theeeen somewhere along the line Lelouch also converts Jin and they go on and have wacky adventures on the way to the capital to find the man that ends up being Lelouch's father. At some point Mugen gets fed up with Lelouch and strikes off on his own for a bit, and he runs into Kallen who is now working for Urabe of the Four Holy Swords and they have a fight. Likewise, while Lelouch sleeps, Suzaku tracks him down and tries to steel his heart and finish him off, but Jin intercepts and THEY have a fight. Lelouch steals a horse and rides away because that's the sort of shit Lelouch does. Lelouch meets up with his half-brother Rolo and Lelouch stays with him for a while. Jin and Mugen, injured but not dead (both either having driven off or escaped from the other two), find Lelouch again purely by accident. Lelouch says with a sneer, "What took you so long? I'm docking your pay." And then somehow everyone meets up in the capital and there's a big showdown. ...DON'T MAKE ME WRITE THIS, ARGH IT'S SO TEMPTING.

THE END, GOSH

I... I didn't expect the crossovers to be this fun...

Which scene would you like most to see out of the following:
Jin intercepting Suzaku
Kallen and Mugen being badasses
Lelouch, C.C., and Rolo by the sea (more background stuff)
Some sort of wacky adventure (insert ideas)
Lelouch, Mugen, and Jin meeting up again
Lelouch busting Mugen and/or Jin out of jail
Other (by suggestion)

:D

Tiger & Bunny + Hikaru no Go

Date: 2012-02-13 10:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rex-sun.livejournal.com
"Shindo Hikaru!"

Hikaru stops in his tracks and thinks for one split second, That voice-- Where have I heard it before? --before he turns on his heel and there is that boy-- the boy he beat last week--

"Touya!" Hikaru greets back, feeling his face split into a grin. He is still beholden to this boy for getting the match fee waived and for being so polite. "Touya Akira! What are you doing here?"

Akira seems a little startled by his question. Or maybe he's just out of breath-- he is panting something awful at the moment. Did he run here? But Akira just continues to stare, like he's never seen anything quite like Hikaru. Well, Hikaru has never seen anything quite like Akira, either. He's far too much like an adult.

"Uhm," Hikaru begins, fishing to end the silence. "Weren't you at the Youth Next Tournament?"

"Were you there?" Akira counters.

"Me? No, I just took a quick look in..."

Akira says nothing but stares and stares. As if he's waiting for a punch line or something. Hikaru awkwardly gives him one.

"But you know what?" Hikaru shyly raises his hand to his face and smiles gently. "It was really something. There were Nexts younger than me in there, all with amazing abilities and great control. I've never seen anything like it. I was really impressed."

Akira, breath caught at last, furrows his brow, frowning at Hikaru. "Impressed? But what about your powers? You're really powerful yourself."

Hikaru gulps and tries not to glance back at Sai. "Powerful? Me?"

Akira hesitates, then reaches out to Hikaru. "Can I see your hand?"

"My hand?" Hikaru is beyond creeped out by now, but he offers it anyway.

Akira gently takes it in his own warm hand, a hand with a soft palm but rough fingers. Hikaru tries not to gasp aloud as a sudden intensity chokes the air, a blue aura surrounding the boy in front of him. Akira's eyes are incredibly scary when he's like this-- scarier, somehow, than other Nexts Hikaru has met. Akira runs those rough fingertips over all of Hikaru's sensitive, smooth fingers, palm, and wrist. Something flips pleasantly in Hikaru's belly; startled, he whips his hand away but can't fight down his blush. "What're you doing!"

"Are you going to become a hero?" Akira asks, chin tilted down and eyes, now back to  their usual clear, dark color.

"What? A hero?" Hikaru stares at him blankly before the words sink in and he can't help but to bust out laughing. "Bwa-- Bwa ha ha ha! Me? A hero? Are you serious? It's never even crossed my mind. Akira, you're a real riot!" Hikaru holds his knees to calm his sore stomach and looks back up, tears in his eyes. "How about you? Are you going to become a hero?"

"Of course I am..."

Akira says it so simply, so plainly, so honestly that it catches Hikaru totally off guard. He immediately feels embarrassed and straightens up before he can make more of an ass out of himself. Akira's sincerity makes the possibility come to mind. "Uhm, heroes have to get signed and they have to appear on TV and all, right?"

"Yes," Akira answers, looking a little confused.  "A hero has to be sponsored to be recognized by the Department of Justice."

Hikaru doesnt have to think too hard about it before getting stars in his eyes. Rich and famous? What could beat that? And best of all, it would be Sai doing all the real work. "Wow! Maybe it wouldn't be so bad!"

"Wouldn't be so bad?" Akira repeats blankly. Sai is saying something but Hikaru isn't paying much attention.

"Yeah, you know... Dabble around, save a damsel or two, here and there... And get a bunch of fans and money in the process!"

Akira stares at him in mute shock and horror for ten whole seconds, mouth hanging, before his jaw snaps shut into a snarl. All of a sudden he's all up in Hikaru's personal space, tongue sharp, words cutting, saying, "Those words... Is that really what you think a hero is? You really think recognition from the Department of Justice means so little? You think a hero is some lackadaisical celebrity, posing for cameras and nothing else?"

Akira clenches his fist and Hikaru takes a hasty step back. Akira's entire body is shaking-- his voice is shaking-- he's shaking so hard...

"That's the exact attitude that-- Because there really are heroes with that attitude-- For that, my father and mother weren't saved!".

Hikaru's hands fly to his mouth in horror. He can't meet Akira's eyes anymore; he looks up at Sai, who gazes solemnly at the young boy before them as Akira ducks his head to hide tears.

"You're no hero," Akira spits at the ground. "Are you even a Next? I can't draw any power from you... You're a-- cheater! You're just-- inexcusable!"

After a moment, Akira roughly whips his head up, and his eyes blaze a startling blue.

"Fight me."

"What?" Hikaru gasps.

"I am going to become a hero," Akira says firmly, voice still vicious. "Yes... And if some day you, too, are going to become a hero, and get a lot of fans and money, and maybe help people in the interim... Then surely, you won't lose to me here and now. "

Akira extends his hand, invitation and challenge in one.

"Come on!"

Hikaru gulps and glances up at Sai.

Yes, Sai murmurs. I will fight him. Lend me your body.

Hikaru raises a trembling hand. Akira grabs him by the wrist. It begins to rain.

Akira lost his parents because a hero was trying too hard to be flashy. Akira was saved by Wild Tiger, who personally apologized for the tragedy. Akira never could bring himself to be a fan of heroes, but he adored Wild Tiger, and stridently took on Wild Tiger's beliefs that heroes should be public servants, and that saving people is the only thing that matters, property destruction and angry sponsors be damned.

Akira's power is to copy powers, like Kaede. He is freaked out by Hikaru because he doesn't pick up anything when he touches Hikaru, even though Hikaru is supposedly a Next.

In fact, Hikaru channels Sai-- who is a ghost, but not nearly as old as in HnG proper --and what Akira saw was really Sai's powers. Sai's power, even while alive, was to throw his consciousness into the bodies of others (a la Marianne in Code Geass). Sai, like Jake, also had a rare secondary power-- something rather like an invisible force capable of pushing and pulling objects.

Akira is so powerfully in control of his abilities that he is signed as a hero at a young age. He uses his real name because he feels he has nothing to hide or lose. Hikaru watches him on TV and is terrified to see Akira in danger so often.

Hikaru later comes into his own Next powers-- which happen to be the same as Akira's. Hikaru attends Hero Academy and becomes a hero so that he may fight by Akira's side and protect him. Akira is initially quite appalled, but also baffled by the sudden change in Hikaru's powers.

Together they become the next Barnaby-Wild Tiger-esque crime fighting duo.

...yeah I put a lot of thought into this.

Typical Hikaru - enthusiastic and flippant and a bit embarassing to watch :D and typical Akira dedicated and serious and Akira extends his hand, invitation and challenge in one.

Sai ♥

I love how you combined an HnG interaction with Tiger and Bunny elements. Very clever, I think:) There is no such thing as too much thought;)

I'm caught speculating about how the team of Akira and Hikaru would function - they'll have to constantly be in touch with other Nexts and plan what powers to take - so much room for battle tactics, yum<3

Yeah, I'm sorry I actually went a little cheap by writing a scene almost exactly like a scene in canon. I just changed the words. I put a lot more thought into the universe than I did this one scene. Maybe I will write another scene for you after I write Mega's request and after the next Code Champloo scene. XD

I'm caught speculating about how the team of Akira and Hikaru would function - they'll have to constantly be in touch with other Nexts and plan what powers to take - so much room for battle tactics, yum<3
--&& LOL. Function? What is this "function" you speak of?

H: If it comes to a fire should borrow Kotetsu-san's power! We can use the strength to lift the debris!
A: Idiot! It only lasts for one minute! That's not nearly enough time to save everyone! We should borrow the impenetrable skin ability so we don't get burned as we work to save people!
H: Oh sure, we won't get hurt, but while us weaklings are trying to lift beams--
A: Once inside we can use other methods to free the trapped citizens--
Other hero (Yashiro?): Uhm, you guys? While you were arguing about what would happen if the building caught on fire, uhm... The building caught on fire.

Which scene would you next like to see of the following?:

The third fight between Akira and Hikaru (parallel: third seat kaio vs haze)
Hikaru being an Akira fanboy from home
Hikaru's first day at the Hero Academy
Sai saves Akari through Hikaru
Akira being normal for once around Ogata or Ashiwara

Trigun + Code Geass

From: [identity profile] rex-sun.livejournal.com
It took a while to figure out how to do this one, but once I hit upon the general idea of the scene, this churned out like magic. I hope this is what you're looking for.

Suzaku met the first officially sanctioned human disaster in a church.

He said his name was not actually Zero, that Zero was just the number of people he let live what crossed him. He'd come to confess for all the murders he'd committed, and the list was long. Suzaku heard the stories of the human devil from the outside before-- hearing them from the inside was not much different.

When finally the man fell quiet, Suzaku took a discreet swig from his flask so maybe he could quench the yearning pain inside of him-- that pain that was ultimately unquenchable because the only way to stop the killing was to kill and his heart knew that made no sense.

"Why confess now?" Suzaku asked. He was morbidly curious and they were alone and what kind of religious man was he anyhow?

"That's what you do, isn't it?" Zero returned. Suzaku heard the bitter smile.

"Do you think you might soon die?"

"No, I am never quite that lucky." Then Zero pressed his hand to the screen and it looked like a drowning man asking for help. "What else shall I confess? What else have I done that is a sin? I don't know religion."

"What things do you regret? When have you harmed someone?"

Zero was quiet for a moment and then he said, "I regret that I left my sister behind."

Suzaku hadn't known Zero had a family. His mask made him look so inhuman that the idea hadn't even occurred to him. Suzaku asked, "Why did you leave her?"

Simply Zero answered, "Because she couldn't follow where I had to go."

Suzaku wondered if the man on the other side was unmasked and what kind of expression he wore at that moment.

Then Zero surprised him by asking, "What does it feel like to not kill, pious man?"

Suzaku answered honestly, "It hurts. It is a very difficult thing. I am often quite sad."

"Then what is the point?" Zero asked, and from Suzaku no answer was forthcoming.

Now that Suzaku has met him again, he smiles the same sort of bitter smile that he heard in the confessional that day. Divested of his menace, Zero is not a tall man, and he is not half as old as the wanted posters guess. His name is Lelouch, and mostly he is just a boy-- a boy with a gun.

But his eyes really are something else: the eyes of the devil, just as they said over the satellite.

Lelouch looks peaceful enough in his hospital bed, hands folded so delicately on top of the thin blankets. The doctor tries to stop them both-- "Really! Mr. Lamperouge needs his rest!" --but Lelouch smiles his charming smile and eventually they are left alone.

Suzaku looks down on him grimly, unsmiling. "Long time no see... Zero."

Lelouch's expression could be docile if his eyes didn't glint so evilly.

"I finally found you," Suzaku sighs. He rests his cross punisher against a nearby table and lowers himself onto the foot of the bed. It creaks below him. "What's a legendary guy like you doing in a place like this?"

"Stop it," Lelouch sighs. "It wasn't by choice. There's a hole in my memory. I am just now remembering."

Suzaku crosses his legs. "But it was you, wasn't it? You're the man who wiped out an entire city-- women, children, all...?"

"Yes, that was me," Lelouch admits freely. "I have a fragmented recollection of it."

Suzaku wrinkles his nose. In disgust he lights a cigarette, hoping it will overpower the sickness is his mouth. He is a much different man than he was that day long ago in the church, but something about this man is so fundamentally repulsive to him that the feelings of horror span across time and change and bloodied hands. If these days Suzaku spills wells of blood, then Lelouch spills blood enough to cover the planet and create those things the old world used to have-- oceans.

"You think after that you can just slide into easy retirement?" Suzaku spits.

Lelouch's eyes slide close. This way he might be mistaken for an angel. "This damage to my memory made me want to live quietly, with a different name and a different way of life."

"Excuse me if I find that hard to believe."

Lelouch sneers at him. "Sorry I haven't been by to confess lately," he drawls. "Are you now going to judge as God judges?"

Suzaku drags on his cigarette, hate boiling in his gut-- for Lelouch, but also for himself. Lelouch has a very particular talent of making Suzaku feel like shit.

"Why are you here?" Lelouch asks abruptly.

"To take you away."

"Where to?"

"If you're asking for a final destination, I don't know. However, I do know that I need your help. I turned Augusta upside-down looking for you." Suzaku stands and withdraws Zero's gun from an inner pocket. He throws it into Lelouch's lap where it catches the double-sun and shines as darkly as his mask used to. Lelouch glares down at the thing. "Know a woman named Rakshata? I mentioned I knew you and she fixed it for free."

"Why?" Lelouch asks quietly. "Why are you handing Zero back his gun?"

"I thought you'd need it, where we're going."

Lelouch lifts his chin haughtily and looks out the window. "I'm not your dog."

Suzaku grinds out the rest of his cigarette and takes a deep breath. "But there's something you want, right?"

Lelouch looks at him, straight-faced. He is not questioning but rather ordering with his expression alone that Suzaku explain himself or leave.

"Say... are you familiar with a town called Carcases? It's a tiny town in Southern Cornelia."

If he's not mistaken, Lelouch flinches.

Suzaku continues, "Something strange happened there six months ago. It's residents suddenly disappeared without a trace. Everything in the town looked completely normal... only, the people had vanished. The calvary went in there and combed the place over but didn't find a single soul. One calvaryman, however, did discover something odd... A man's name painted in the monument in the town square. It was in red, and they say it read..." Suzaku doesn't smile when Lelouch leans forward, brow knitted. "Schneizel."

And there crosses the darkest look Lelouch has ever achieved without Zero's mask. Suzaku takes it upon himself to leave and let Lelouch stew.

He waits outside. Eventually Lelouch joins him, fully dressed and tall again in the heels of his boots.

"You know," Lelouch sighs, and he raises his gun that has a sheen like glass and his lips twist and his eyes flare. "I was rather fond of this life. Of my friends and of my little brother."

Suzaku gulps down his split second admiration. "Thems the breaks. Someone's gotta get tough or someone else is gonna cry."

Lelouch walks past him. "Is that why you kill now?"

Suzaku sighs, swallows his hate. The man he used to be is gone, torn apart by the savagery of this godforsaken planet. Now he feels there is an evil that good alone cannot overcome, and rather than stay righteous and be swallowed, he will dabble in evil to defeat the greater evil.

He hefts up the cross and carries it on his shoulders, and he follows the back of the demon.

This would be much darker overall than the real Trigun because we would not have the goofy pacifist Vash to lighten things up! Zero really just shoots the place up!

Total slaughter~ Total slaughter~ Let's begin the killing time...

Also. Replace the plant angels as illustrated in the manga with Nunally or Cornelia or Euphemia or Guinevere floating around naked. Obviously this is good. Yes.

Insure girls Kallen and Shirley, reporting for duty. And bickering along the way. Constantly.

Schneizel makes a much calmer Knives. "It's not that I enjoy killing the humans, brother, it's just that it must be done for the good of our people. I really do wish we could live in harmony but it just can't be so. You and I must use our unique positions to serve our people."

"Fuck you because fuck you."

Okay, not really. But yes really. Schneizel killed Marianne, I think.

So Lelouch left Nunnally floating in a tank and serving as an energy source? That's quite poignant! He probably can't do anything for her or he would have done it, right? What's Lelouch is fighting for? Killing Schneizel?

Hmm maybe this Lelouch is super vicious because there's nothing he can do, really. All he can do is seek revenge against Schneizel since Schneizel crashed the ship and killed Marianne and cracked Nunally's plant bulb. ...I suppose!

Anon, I am working on this now... Please note that my Digimon knowledge is all about Adventure 1 and a bit of the card game. I'm pretty sure the Digimon share English and Japanese names, but if there is a difference, er, I'll be going with the English names. However, for the DigiDestined children, would you prefer English names (Tai, Matt, Izzy) or Japanese names (Taichi, Yamato, [Izumi] Koushiro)?

I don't know how often you check here... If you give me an answer before I complete it, I'll go back and edit. But if I don't get an answer, I'm going ahead with the Japanese names because I prefer the Japanese version of the show. (It's a lot more serious than the English version.)

oh wow you're fast! I prefer the Japanese version, too so Japanese names are perfectly fine with me :D Looking forward to your writing!

Digimon - Code Geass [1]

Here's part one, anon. This prompt is cool and epic because Code Geass is cool and Digimon is epic. But crossovers are a bit harder for me than fusions, and also I have never written Digimon before. So this is a lot of silly, perhaps unnecessary chatter because I'm trying to find the different characters. But as I say, it's a fun crossover. I'm having fun writing it and there's quite a bit more coming. Thank you!

"Taichi... Taichi, wake up."

Taichi swats away the hand jiggling his shoulder and turns to his side, pressing his face into the lumpy wad of someone's bag. It's not the best pillow he's ever had, but it's better than dirt, he supposes. Must be Jyou's-- smells a bit like medical cream underneath the weeks of dirt and grime.

The hand is digging in his pocket now. Someone is sniffing at his face.

"Can' ah guy get s'm sleep 'round here?" he manages.

"Excuse us," Gabumon whispers.

"Darn it, Taichi, where's your scope?"

Taichi cracks his eyes open. Gabumon's belly is way too close to his face for comfort; he rolls onto his back and then Yamato's elbow is way too close to his face for comfort. "Argh!"

"Be quiet!"

"Sorry, but the others are asleep--"

"My other-- no, not-- yes, that one--"

Somehow the other children and Digimon manage to sleep through the series of hissing whispers and dirt-scraping shuffling that ensues. Very suddenly Yamato springs up and stalks off, fist clutched around Taichi's pocket scope, and then it is much too quiet. Taichi, still sleepy and grumpy and dazed, props himself up by the elbows and watches him go.

The night is very dark and the fire gone out. Next to him, Jyou's eyes open blearily and then close heavily-- and again he snores, not bothered enough to fully wake. First Yamato climbs silently up the tallest tree, then his partner follows, tail whipping out of sight amongst the leaves. With a huff, Taichi scrambles to his feet, dusting off the bits of mud caked to his shorts and stepping over the others and ignoring how hungry he is.

Just past the circle of the clearing, Taichi comes to the base of the lookout tree and cranes his neck till the back of his head touches his shoulders. Above, Yamato squints one eye and peers through the scope. Taichi lets him look and rubs his eyes in the mean time. At length he calls, "What do you see?"

Gabumon shushes him, one claw to his lips. He casts a worried look to the sleeping group. "Please, Taichi, lower your voice."

"Not an enemy, then?" Taichi asks a bit quieter.

"No," Yamato mutters just loud enough for Taichi to hear. "Not coming towards us, at least."

Something warm nudges Taichi's elbow. He looks down to find Agumon yawning sparks into the back of his clawed hand. His friend leans into him and looks up with big questioning eyes.

"So no need to warn the others?" Taichi asks of Yamato. Yamato is silent. "Come on, give it up, what are you seeing?" He and Agumon squint into the darkness in tandem as if they could see with their plain eyes that which Yamato needed a scope to confirm.

"It's a fire," Yamato finally spits out.

"What!"

"Please, Taichi, it's no big deal..."

"I'm coming up!"

"Not on this branch! Hey!"

Taichi fights his sleep-heavy limbs to scramble up the tree. He perches one branch below Yamato and Gabumon and thrusts out his hand expectantly, impatiently. Yamato rolls his eyes and drops it, and Taichi has to flail to make sure it doesn't fall all the way too the ground. He glares up at Yamato before jamming the scope to his eye.

"I don't see it..."

"Closer to the lake."

"I still d-- oh, there!"

"Is it from a Digimon village?" Agumon asks, sidling up behind Taichi.

"Noooo, I don't think so," Taichi mutters, zooming in as much as possible. "A small group of Digimon? Hey, Yamato?"

Taichi hands the scope off to Agumon so he can see as well. Yamato hums, eyes trained on the speck of light so tiny without the scope that, not knowing it was there, it would have been nearly impossible to see.

"How did you spot it in the first place?"

"It suddenly flared up while I was keeping a lookout. I happened to be looking in that direction."

"Suddenly, then? Not a slow burn?"

"Right. I'm guessing some sort of fire breather."

Taichi considers the situation. The fire could be friend or foe, but the important thing is that it is far, far away. "I don't think we need to alert the others."

"Well..." Yamato looks uneasy.

"Maybe we'll mention it in the morning?" Gabumon offers diplomatically.

"Or we'll just tell each guard about it as their turn comes."

"That's a plan. Which reminds me. Agumon, Taichi, it's your turn-- good luck!" And with that Yamato gives a little smirk and he and his partner swing downwards. Taichi blows a raspberry in his general direction and settles in for his watch.

By daylight they reconvene, brushing out hair with fingers and trying to get just enough tears worked up to wipe away sleep from their eyes. In the night, Taichi told Mimi, and Mimi told Jyou-- but apparently the fire had gone out before Jyou got his turn at watch. Nevertheless, Jyou has dark circles under his eyes, as if the threat of a small little fire reigniting, perhaps closer, kept him paranoid and awake even after he had passed watch to Koushirou. Now Yamato squats and relates the story to a yawning Takeru and Taichi calls the rest to order.

"Sora, come on down!" Taichi calls to the watch tree. Biyomon, rather than listening, takes to the skies for a while and then flutters back down. Taichi can see the blue of Sora's hat through the leaves.

"We have no clue who made it," Jyou asserts. "And given our track record, it's probably no one I want to meet. Let's just go in the opposite direction."

"But what if it's some sort of civilization?" Mimi asks, still raking her fingers through and through her hair.

"No, it was just a small fire, right? It belonged to a camp of some sort."

"It's people!" Sora suddenly shouts. The children below gasp and yell and all surge upon the tree. Taichi pushes through the pack and scrambles up the tree; Tentomon buzzes far ahead of him, joining the flying Biyomon.

"How do you know?" Taichi demands, finding again the branch he had last night.

"Biyomon flew up and saw them--"

"They were most definitely humans!" Biyomon proclaims excitedly. "There's no mistaking it!"

"Hooray~~~!" Mimi exclaims below. She happily tosses Palmon into the air and nearly drops her on the way down. Startled, Palmon struggles.

"Are they really?" Takeru asks with eyes sparkling. "Are they kids like us?"

"I think so, but I'm not sure..."

"Calm down, guys!" Jyou admonishes. He sternly plants his hands on his hips and his sneakers in the ground. "It's not like they're our saviors! If they're human, if Biyomon really saw--"

"Of course she saw--"

"--I'm saying that they very well may just be stuck here like us!"

"Oh..." Takeru mutters. Patamon deflates and lands softly on his head.

"Do you think they're doing all right?" Sora asks. Taichi notices that her lips has been thoroughly worried. "Do you think they have Digimon?"

"Yeah, about that." Koushirou turns to Gomamon, who is nearest. "How'd you guys know to find us? Why do you just know that we're partners? Are you guys the only ones?"

Gomamon waves a flipper as if to bat away the subject. "Don't ask me. I just happen to know. I don't know how I know, I just know."

"Argh, you guys are so vague on the details!"

"So do we go to meet them or not?" Taichi asks with a huff.

"Why would we?" Jyou yelps.

"Why wouldn't we?" Sora counters, feet finally touching ground.

"Are you sure they're kids like us?" Mimi asks.

"Well, no..." Biyomon admits. "They could very well be adults."

"If they're adults we should definitely go, right?" Takeru asks of Yamato.

"Even if they're kids, they might have some clues for us," Koushirou adds.

"If they're dangerous-- well, that's what you have us for," Agumon asserts, and after that both Taichi and Yamato meet eyes and nod.

"In favor?" Taichi asks simply, and the only down hand reluctantly finds the air under the pressure of many stares.

And so they go:

And though they decide to find these people and though they spend half a day trying to find them, well--

As it turns out, it is They-- those children who would become from then on "the other children" or, in progressively less words, "the enemy" or "them"--

The enemy finds them first.

Noooo! You can't just end it there!!

Cliffhangers aside, this was EPIC. I seriously would not think that this was your first time writing Digimon -- everything was wonderful and in character.

"We have no clue who made it," Jyou asserts. "And given our track record, it's probably no one I want to meet. Let's just go in the opposite direction."

This made me LOL really hard. How true, if they had listened to Jyou's advice, they'd never had ended up in half the situations they did (or maybe they would because it's just their luck!)

seriously you need to write more of this
