Date: 2011-09-29 06:49 am (UTC)That's what I like about Ougi in general, and what I like about him in Ougi/Lelouch. He's very normal, down to earth. He's seen some bad shit, but he still goes on without any life-halting mental breakdowns. His sense of duty to other people is second to none. And while he obviously gets shit done, he is not a grand mastermind and even questions his own ability sometimes--WHICH IS NORMAL, AND GOOD. Power is always best in the hands of the man who is conscious of the fact that he may not deserve it. I love Ougi because he is soft spoken and gentle but still completely capable of managing his people. He is not meant to be a war time leader, but fits perfectly as second-in-command or as a peace time leader. He's the guy you want as a friend, the boss you want to work for, the excellent older brother figure. He's everyone's favorite teacher.
Sometimes I really wish fan brats would use their heads and realize that people like Lelouch are NOT actually that cool. Lelouch is a self-absorbed liar and manipulator and a control freak. He's a fucking awesome character, but you would NOT want to meet him in real life.
Lelouch is a delinquent, a mastermind-- really there's no point in explaining him further, fandom has explained him so thoroughly.
What influenced me to like them as a pairing: Obviously, teno-hikari is pretty great. I don't know of anyone else who has written this pairing, but then, it's been a while since I read anything not from cgkinkmemeii. Higanbana though is kinda sorta the defining work, isn't it?
The very first time I ever got pinger by this pairing was the point where Lelouch, C.C., and Kallen (in an otter disguise) are on the roof in R2. C.C. tells Lelouch about Ougi and Viletta's affair. Just before that-- I don't know if the original Japanese is anything like this-- but the way the English voice says, "Ougi... kept a secret from me?"
SO ADORABLE. 8U And after that, I interpreted every moment of Zero-Ougi speech or interaction differently. Mountains of Narita, Ougi says about Zero, something like, "He knows our rage. And I think a man that knows rage also knows sorrow." It's almost a tender feeling expressed there... And also, at Fuji, "I'm sorry, Zero, but I need a reason to believe in you." I don't know, it's like... he was apologizing for his moment of weakness, which just makes me think that there's no room for weakness in their relationship which I really like.
How this works in my head: Okay I think that one of the most important parts of this pairing is to not get lovey-dovey gushy about it. I think Higanbana is one of if not THE only scenario where the relationship is at any point happy and domestic. I think it's quite clear that, while it is hinted that he has some small amounts of fondness for some of them (most noticeably Urabe, Kaguya and Rakshata, but even that is very subtle), ultimately the Black Knights are pawns. Ultimately they are replaceable. Canonically, Lelouch reacts to Ougi's possibly fatal wound in the final ep of s1 by saying, "I'll find a replacement for him later, ..." Granted, he was deathly worried about his little sister...
But aside from that, I think it's quite adorable that Ougi manages to get the drop on Lelouch sometimes. Ougi is just so NORMAL that Lelouch barely gets him, I think. Not realizing that woman was his girlfriend, etc. But there's a REASON Lelouch put Ougi as his second-in-command, implying that he acknowledges and respects Ougi. I can't believe when people portray Ougi as somehow inept, because he isn't. Hello, inept people get made janitors, like Tamaki. Ougi's got this shit under control, guys.
Ougi/Lelouch 2

To run away would be cowardice, but he stays and convinces himself that the end will justify these means. He's almost dependent on Zero in this way, while wishing he wasn't.
Ougi sees that human to the very end. Again, dunno the Japanese version, but in English, in ep19 or r2, he says with a pained expression, "We're betraying our comrade..." He is extremely upset by Lelouch's revealed betrayal but at the same time he's upset he also has to betray. Ougi's pain is exquisite to me.
Mutual respect. Ougi sees Lelouch as a human being. Ougi manages to surprise Lelouch sometimes.
So this pairing works in my mind because I can imagine Lelouch, given the right circumstances, could become very intrigued by Ougi. And Ougi is just his type: gentle, demurring, and faithful.
...also, come on, I have a thing for the teacher-delinquent student hidden dynamic. Poor Ougi, what would he do if he found out Zero was just a kid! "You have to be in school!! --oops, uh, s-sorry, did I go to far?" + adorable for older man taking orders from younger kid ("Seriously? My last batch of students would be your age by now.") + two virginal characters, lololol + general LULZ because Lelouch is supposed to be the mastermind but Ougi prolly knows more about taxes than Lelouch does.
Scenarios this pairing could work in: Uh, well, I think Higanbana covers it. Otherwise, there's Villetta to consider, and the very professional relationship they have, and the fact that yeah, they're kind of using each other.
I have a few ideas for adorable little things like Ougi meeting Lelouch as "Kallen's friend" and going "hmm, he seems familiar" and Lelouch sweating bullets.
And also occasionally I got the idea before reading Higanbana of the incredibly cliche situation where Zero sustains a head I jury that needs to be treated right away and Ougi is the least dangerous option to reveal himself to. And Ougi would be shocked but wouldn't push or reveal, and Lelouch would appreciate that and convince himself he needed to conserve his Geass against Ougi for some other situation-- or something dumb like that. STFU, it's just a fantasy, it would make for terrible fic.
Sorry, no minific. Not tonight at least. Maybe in the morning if something hits me. But canon-based Ougi/Lelouch is pretty hard. :P And I hope I made sense here because some of it was written when I was dead tired and I was having trouble focusing.

Date: 2011-09-29 09:20 pm (UTC)On my project list is a story called "Those That Never Leave", in which Lelouch is immortal. Ougi will be playing a huge part in that story because I feel there needs to be more Ougi fics in the world.
I always try to write my bigger fics as gen to appeal to the widest area of people. Or at least, when I release the final draft, I edit out the pairing leanings (like the 00 in Decayed).
So perhaps I can write Ougi/Lelouch into Those That Never Leave, but in a way that it could easily be editted out. Hmm!
Well, so then, your fic will come whenever I feel like writing Those That Never Leave. ;)
Diethard/Lelouch

But there was also a couple, uh... I don't feel like fetching the links, I believe they were both written for cgkinkmeme. There was one where Diethard had figured Zero was a virgin and tried to rectify it. And then there was a short but sexy one where Diethard was doing Zero while Zero was staring at video film of himself.
LOL it's not at all happy or pretty or respectful. The only way it works in my mind is some sort of exploitative or manipulative situation.
Mayyyybe one day I will do a fic that's a bit more of a serious take on "Diethard ascertains Zero's identity and, super creeper-like, blackmails Lelouch into sex". It would have to be a slightly longer fic to get over the whole Geass thing, but, eh...

Lelouch gulps and tries to stay his ground, but Diethard is approaching slowly, determinedly, like a predator. The older man licks his lips. There's a feverish sort of look in his eyes as he lifts his hand and traces it across Lelouch's smooth jaw. Lelouch lifts his head proudly, defiantly, in the confidence he suddenly no longer feels but does not want to admit to the absence of.
That big hand trails downwards, over the line of Lelouch's throat, and buries itself in Zero's cravat. Rather than remove it, Diethard merely fingers the material.
"To think," the man says hoarsely. He presses a bit closer and Lelouch's hip knocks gently into his desk behind him. Diethard does not stop but presses ever forward, until Lelouch has to gulp back a gasp as their crotches make contact. He feels a thrill flip his stomach and his face begin to heat against his will. (He's never felt such contact before.)
"To think," Diethard says again, lowly. His face is very close, his lips moving very close to Lelouch's. "To think I'd ever be able to touch Zero, my lord, so intimately. Like real lovers."
And Diethard lets out a tiny little groan and grabs the back of Lelouch's head, bringing him forward. Diethard mashes his open mouth against Lelouch's closed lips in real passion. Lelouch closes his eyes and knows he must bare it, so he places his gloved hands on Diethard's chest and opens his mouth to him.

Teno hikari was planning to write Diethard/Zero at some point, but it's never been posted, alas. I have no doubt it would have been great too.

I've got nothing but (1) something vague about seeing him at Ashford and going 'hmm, he is familiar'. Or maybe (2)some weird canon-manip where Diethard finds the unconscious Zero at that one time where Shirley shot Viletta...? O-or (3) some farfetched but potentially super-tense weirdness where Diethard calls Zero and instantly a phone starts ringing on the train somewhere near him.
Oh... The more I write, the more I get ideas.
(2) could take a cool route of both Diethard/Lelouch and Ougi/Lelouch... Say if Ougi had actually given chase, or maybe Lelouch stayed unconscious all night, or SOMETHING and they both found him... Then the story could focus on the differences between the two men having such knowledge
--but (3) is such a cool scene in my head. And it would fit so well with a general creepy fic.
How the hell do I get over Geass... @___@

What if Diethard walked in on him in a similar situation? And... IDK, cornered him or something, and it was too dark for him to see Lelouch's eyes, so geass doesn't work?
Or, using possibly scenario 3, Lelouch could be forced to use geass on him earlier for some reason.
Because during that school festival episode Diethard saw him and Nunnally hanging out with Euphemia and put the pieces together and Lelouch had to erase his memory of that?There is also always the possibility of Diethard blackmailing him to do stuff on video. That might work best for Scenario 1, especially if it's set earlier during Season One, before Diethard formally joins the Black Knights - he does it all through video (without letting Lelouch see his own face, and using a voice scrambler) so Lelouch won't know who he is/won't refuse his entry into the Black Knights.
Option 2 though alskdjladjdg that would be so amazing. I have this, uh, interesting vision of Diethard stealing Lelouch away and, um, well if Lelouch is unconscious he can't use his geass alsdkhlasfsdf - might be a little too far for what you're going for though, IDK. Of course, you could always do a more gennish version of that of Ougi and Diethard finding Lelouch and debating what to do with him... but hnnnnggh Ougi and Diethard on Lelouch hnnnggh. I'm not sure what you could do with that situation, unless again Lelouch had already used geass on Diethard because his and Nunnally's secret identities were compromised...

S1. Diethard, Zero-fanboy extraordinaire, uses his newsman job to follow Zero's story. He covers Saitama from a distance. Zero disappears, he is disappointed, but-- as he is taking a break, like a stroll across the street for a donut, he can't help but notice a very suspicious teenager emerging from the sewers or some such. Uhm. Then, uhm.
Well, this is hard to sync at all with canon events, so perhaps I should simply forgo them in the first place. Or rematch canon and try to fit shit in. But, yes. Then, idk, by happenstance perhaps Diethard sees the boy again, at school or maybe at a gambling den or something? And there is something about this dashing teenage boy-- something familiar about his voice, his figure, his personality. And isn't there a scene where Viletta and Jeremiah speak to Diethard about 'Lelouch Lamperouge'?
Gahhh I'm really due for a rewatching. Damn.
But maybe Diethard and his creepy creeper ways is starting to make a file for Lelouch Lamperouge or something, but with no concrete conclusion 'this boy is zero' because he doesn't ACTUALLY want to sabotage Zero, he admires him too much. So he hides this file away, think like Shirley and her letter. And then (3) happens, probably on purpose, Creephard sees the boy and calls the number just to confirm.
--and Lelouch is like shit and geasses him. Then, uhmm.... Idk, at SOME UNDEFINED POINT he recovers this file and he's like "zomg wtf".
.........aaaaand that's what I have so far. Seriously. But now I want Ougi in this like a burning. Ougiiiii. He MUST be there. He must be the good guy who does not want anything in exchange for knowing Zero's identity, he just wants to keep Zero safe for the sake of the BK, and Lelouch very subtly turns to him, either in suspicion or for comfort, whenever Creephard lays on the pressure.

Diethard might have seen Lelouch there even before the canon timeline, b/c Diethard might frequent them to gather blackmail material on the nobles or smth like that. So, he might already have a file on that extraordinary pretty face teenager and then, idk, hear his name from Viletta?
I love the idea of Ohgi beeing the good guy. SO MUCH LOVE.
Suzaku/Shirley

Well, I admit, I've almost always thought of Shirley as "Lelouch's girl". After Love Attack, even if they aren't shown as cute and cuddly, they are sort of an official couple, aren't they? I mostly think of Shirley as Lelouch's girlfriend. In fact, I watched a lot of R2 before I even knew there WAS an S1, so Love Attack was one of the first episodes I ever watched.
...but! I also thought, when I watched from the beginning, that there was potential between Suzaku and Shirley that was just eclipsed by Shirkey's teenage-romantic-everlasting-crush on Lelouch.
Shirley was the first one to want to befriend Suzaku when he first came to Ashford. When he caught Arthur and no one else knew how to approach him, Shirley walked right up to him and struck up a friendship with him. She was always very kind to an 11, and that's her best quality IMO. She was very sweet.
Hen there's the obvious tease moment when Shirley opens up about her feelings to Suzaku, and Suzaku becomes his silly flirty self and offers to call Lelouch for her. And uh, they fall on top of each other. Which is really cheesy, but I thought it was adorable anyway. Just the whole wrestling over the phone and all.
So I saw them becoming really good friends and it made me go "awww!!" And then I watched R2 again (last time I had stopped right after this episode, because I realized there was soooo much that I was missing) and then came Shirley's death. And in that episode, Shirley trusts Suzaku to talk to him. At first she seems to want Suzaku to arrest Lelouch, but of course she loves Lelouch and changes her mind. But she still hangs out with him that episode and opens up yet again about her feelings. She even tries to dig Suzaku's feelings up.
But of course she dies (and this time around I cried when I hadn't the first time), and we see Suzaku being upset and shocked and disgusted by her death. Someone said somewhere, don't remember, (was it Shiro?) that Suzaku's feelings about Shirley's death are often ignored by fans for the sheer enormity of Lelouch's angst and psychopathic killing spree.
How it works, and the scenarios:
I really think there was enough material between Suzaku and Shirley that, had she not been head-over-heels for Lelouch, there was the potential for a cute little romance. They could be goofballs together and do athletic things together~. 'Course I think Shirley would be very torn because she's the girl who thinks "love is forever~" and she would have a hard time moving past her crush on Lelouch. I'm not even going to pretend to speculate if Suzaku/Shirley would last-- who can ever say? She died. ): But they were excellent friends, at least.
I think if you wanted it to work in a canon situation, it would have to be written from the slant of Shirley hanging out with Suzaku because she's curious about Lelouch and what better way to know than through his best childhood friend? But as she spends more time with him, she realizes Suzaku is, uh... NICER to girls. XD ;;
And of course there's situations like my fic Nothing in Yourself, in which I chose to make things gen but suggestive. In that case Shirley met Lelouch and Suzaku at about the same time and grew close to both of them, and did not prize Lelouch over Suzaku on the sheer merit of knowing Lelouch longer, as what happened in canon.

Lelouch/Shirley and Suzaku/Shirley might be vying for the spot as my third overall favorite ship in the show. (I'm sure you can guess numbers 1 and 2, hehe).
So yes! APPROVAL from me here, definitely. (This kind of reminds me of how the only threesome fic I've written to date was Suzaku/Lelouch/Shirley... LOL).
I also think Suzaku's devastation over losing Shirley is often a bit glossed over in the fandom. It's entirely the fault of the canon though, by focusing too much on Lelouch and what he feels. :/ Oh well.
