Yes, I always thought Suzaku and Shirley had the most adorable friendship ever in canon. Them being romantic is sooooo cute in my head, ten times cuter than SuzaEuphy.
I think when I rewrite, though, I need to make it a little more clear: Suzaku has grown different from his canon self - now he just, well, can't chose his ideals over Lelouch. ---> In my notes for this, I wrote that Suzaku's reading for joining Lelouch is NOT him caving in. It's him never being able to fully control Lelouch but trying-- in this 'verse, since Suzaku was with him, Lelouch did not kill Clovis. Suzaku persuaded him not to. Suzaku joining him in the end is an attempt on his part to steer Lelouch away from more reprehensible actions-- to be Lelouch's guilty conscious, as he says --and to be there always to direct him to the right choices. Or, as I say, attempt to do these things.
And then Suzaku falls and hits his head and bawww T_T ---> GUH I KNOW I WAS TRYING TO DECIDE WHAT EXACTLY KILLED HER AND THE I WAS LIKE "...I am an evil genius someone please stop me" and I wrote it anyway and I have the urge to write Suzaku's fall as even more tragic with Lelouch flipping out a bit more BECAUSE I AM AN EVIL GENIUS SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME
