Congratulations for finishing the fic! You write emotionally charged scenes wonderfully.
I still don't like Shirley as a person or as a character, but I do like her acceptance of Suzaku, both here and in canon, and their relationship. I've always thought that her death in canon hit Suzaku hard and everyone tends to overlook it, because of the overwhelming force of Lelouch's angst.
Anyway, I love all the little, beautifully subtle hints scattered here and there - like Shirley and Suzaku not shying away from physical contact, Shirley's jealousy, their dialog during that last dinner together.
Which means that Suzaku in the end loses even more.
Seeing Lelouch in his anger and misery and on Refrain wasn't pretty, but Suzaku clinging to him and hurting himself didn't have any less impact. That phone conversation, omg. Suzaku has grown different from his canon self - now he just, well, can't chose his ideals over Lelouch.
The dinner scene and Lelouch acing at cooking was cozy and lovely, especially in the face of things to come.
I think that what you did with Nunnally's death makes sense - a pointless one like that is even more painful. And then Suzaku falls and hits his head and bawww T_T
